Powering Progress, Responsibly
At Hitachi Global Air Power, sustainability is integral to how we innovate, operate, and grow. We believe building reliable, high performance compressed air solutions also means reducing our environmental footprint, supporting our people and communities, and operating with integrity. We focus our efforts on the following principles:
- Decarbonization through energy efficiency and emissions reduction initiatives
- Circular economy efforts to reduce waste and improve material management
- Nature positive projects supporting land stewardship and biodiversity
- Operational improvements informed by audits, assessments, and data analysis
Sustainability Through Innovation
Compressed air is essential to modern industry – often called the fourth utility – so efficiency matters. That’s why we design and manufacture compressed air equipment that helps customers power their operations more efficiently.
As part of the global Hitachi network, we contribute to broader sustainability goals by combining local expertise with global scale. Our teams continuously look for smarter ways to design, manufacture, and support compressed air systems that power essential industries while minimizing environmental impact.
From infrastructure and manufacturing to food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, and advanced technology, our work plays a role in keeping the world moving—responsibly.
- Energy Efficient Solutions: We engineer products with performance, durability, and efficiency in mind—helping reduce energy consumption over the full lifecycle of our equipment.
- Responsible Manufacturing: Across our facilities, we prioritize waste reduction, responsible material use, and continuous improvement in our environmental practices.
- Continuous Innovation: By investing in research and development, we strive to advance technologies that support the transition to more sustainable industrial operations.
People and Communities
Sustainability starts with people. From the safety and well being of our employees to the communities where we live and work, we are committed to making a positive, lasting impact.
- Safety Always: Nothing is more important than ensuring our employees go home safe every day. Safety is embedded in our culture, processes, and decision making.
- Inclusive, Respectful Workplace: We foster an environment where diverse perspectives are valued, collaboration thrives, and everyone has the opportunity to grow.
- Community Engagement: We support local communities through partnerships, outreach, and efforts that strengthen the places where we operate.

Extending Product Life
Sustainability is at the core of how we design and support our products. Through our 5R approach – Remanufacture, Rebuild, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle – we extend the lifespan of our equipment and minimize waste. We design products to have two, three or more lifecycles, and support sustainable end-of-product-life solutions, helping to reduce resource consumption and contribute to a more circular economy.
Our Sullair Certified REMAN program is a key example of the 5Rs in action. Through this program, select air compressor components are professionally remanufactured to better-than-when new condition. This program helps reduce material waste and lower demand for new raw materials, while providing our customers with a cost-effective solution without compromising performance or reliability.
Responsible Business Practices
Trust and integrity are foundational to our long standing reputation. We hold ourselves to high ethical standards and expect the same across our supply chain and business relationships.
- Ethical Operations: We conduct business responsibly, transparently, and in alignment with the values and policies of the Hitachi Group.
- Strong Partnerships: We work closely with suppliers and partners who share our commitment to quality, sustainability, and responsible practices.
- Long Term Thinking: Our decisions prioritize durability, reliability, and long term value—supporting customers while contributing to a more sustainable industrial future.

Management Systems & External Benchmarks
Here, our sustainability approach is supported by established management systems and external assessments that promote consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Our Michigan City facility maintains ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) certifications. These systems provide structured processes for risk management, operational control, corrective action, and performance review across our operations.
We also participate in the EcoVadis sustainability assessment to benchmark management practices and identify improvement opportunities. Based on its most recent assessment, our Michigan City facility received an EcoVadis Silver rating, placing it in the 91st percentile of companies assessed.
Together, ISO management systems and EcoVadis results support disciplined execution, data driven decision making, and ongoing improvement.
